Discovering the purpose in everyday choices as a way of grounding myself.
Working on myself has come with several mindsets, concepts, and practices; you name it, I’ve probably gone through a phase with it. But the one that has genuinely stuck with me is “intentional living.”
And if I’m being honest, I used to think it was just a fancier way of saying “be present.” But the more I read and heard about it, the more I realized it was something slightly different. It’s about consciously aligning yourself with your surroundings instead of just… existing in them.
Which is easier said than done. Because it is so easy to feel like you’re just drifting through life without really choosing any of it. So let’s talk about this a little more.
The Power of Intentional Living:

The simplest way I can put it: it’s about making sure your actions, decisions, and priorities actually reflect what you care about. Not what you think you should care about or what looks good. What’s actually yours.
When that starts clicking, something shifts. Even the boring, mundane parts of the day start feeling like they mean something. You stop just reacting to everything around you and start actually choosing, even in the small things.
How to cultivate “intentionality”?
- Clarify Your Values: and I mean actually sit with this one. It’s not a five-minute exercise. What genuinely matters to you, not what you think should matter. That’s your compass for pretty much everything else.
- Set Meaningful Goals: not the overwhelming, change-your-whole-life kind. Just clear, honest goals that actually connect to what you care about. Career, relationships, personal growth, whatever feels most urgent right now. Direction matters more than perfection here.
- Practice Mindfulness: I know, I know, overused word. But hear me out. It really just means slowing down enough to notice what you’re choosing and why. That’s it. No fancy app required.
- Simplify and Declutter: this one surprised me honestly. But clearing out the noise, physical or mental, genuinely makes room for the things that actually matter. Less stuff, more space to breathe.
- Embrace Gratitude: a practice I’m still working on, not going to lie. But even just noticing one small thing a day shifts something. Slowly, but it does.
Finding Purpose in Everyday Choices:
The good news is this doesn’t require big, dramatic life changes. It starts with the small stuff: how you wake up, how you talk to people, or how you spend a free hour. Every little choice is actually an opportunity to show up as the person you’re trying to become.
Does that sound exhausting? A little, yes. But it’s not a destination. It’s more like an ongoing practice. Some days you’re nailing it, some days you forget entirely, and that’s fine. It’s the intention that counts, not the perfection.
Since trying to actually live this way, I feel like things have started making a bit more sense. Life feels less like something happening to me and more like something I’m actually participating in. And honestly? That’s been worth more than any productivity hack or wellness trend I’ve ever tried.
Less performance, more purpose. That’s the whole idea.
